Fuand Here I have outlined my 3 initial ideas for my main task of producing a regional magazine production. For this task, It was necessary to outline any ideas I believe to be significant in producing a print regional magazine. Considering the location the product would be distributed and where I would produce my photographs relating to the inner content. As a concluded result, I have decided to base my product on the subculture regional magazine - distributing it within the City of Brighton UK, with the hopeful result of branching out to London, UK. Considering audiences, the product will have a primary audience of those of the ages of 18 to early 30's. This being relevant to the linguistic codes within the product, which may be slightly complicated for younger audiences - however, readable enough to still aim towards the lower age group of the spectrum. This because youth subcultures are still an existing factor today with new subcultures existing also. A secondary audience would focus on the age range of mid 30's to late 50's, this being due to the fact the magazine may feature content upon youth subculture's in Brighton that existed during the 1950's/60's, (i.e The Mods and Rockers) therefore would highlight significance to these readers. Moreover, throughout my initial idea brainstorming. I had found that I would like the combination of both subcultures and fashion as chosen as a second idea, this would allow me to branch out to a secondary region (Central London, UK) this will be developed in my next task of expanding my ideas onto a moodboard format.
THEORY APPLICATION: A use of genre theory can be relevant here in selecting the best idea for my brief. Steve Neale, a genre theorist argues that pleasure is derived from the genre requiring REPETITION and DIFFERENCE and there would be little pleasure without some difference for audiences. Also adding that we may derive pleasure from how a product's genre conventions may be manipulated as a consumer. This is how I have considered my ideas to be approached, highlighting that although typically, genre can alter for regional magazines. But by using a combination of two genres - it will allow my primary audience to acknowledge the shifted expectations as the genre is being stretched and manipulated - heading in new directions. In addition to this, a use of representations theory can therefore be applied. As the magazine will primarily focus on subcultures, stereotypes of what makes that subculture a form of group will presumably be made.
